Power leads Penske 1-2-3 sweep in W. Glen qualifying

07/03/2010 - Watkins Glen, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Team Penske dominated Saturday's qualifying for the IZOD IndyCar Series race at Watkins Glen International, with points leader Will Power grabbing the pole for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen.

Power rounded the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course in one minute, 29.3164 seconds to give Penske its eighth consecutive IndyCar pole this season and its sixth straight pole at Watkins Glen.

"It's awesome to have the car on pole again," said Power, who claimed his fifth pole of the season and the seventh of his IndyCar career. "We're certainly racking them up, but we've got to get the race win."

Power kicked off the season by winning the first two street/road course races -- Brazil and St. Petersburg, FL. He currently holds a 12-point lead over Scott Dixon, who did not make the final "Fast Six" session and ended up qualifying seventh.

Helio Castroneves will start alongside Power on the front row after qualifying 0.14 seconds behind his teammate.

"Each one of us wants to win, but as [team owner] Roger [Penske] says in the end, the team wins," Castroneves said. "Whoever is up there, it benefits the team."

Castroneves won the first three poles at Watkins Glen from 2005-07.

Ryan Briscoe, who won the pole here in 2008 and '09, qualified third, while defending series champion Dario Franchitti took the fourth spot.

Rookie Takuma Sato and Justin Wilson, the defending race winner, will share the third row. Dixon and Marco Andretti will make up row four. Mario Moraes and Adam Carroll, a newcomer to the series, will roll off from the fifth row.

One week after competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire, Danica Patrick qualified a disappointing 21st in the 25 car field.

Sunday's IndyCar race at Watkins Glen is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. (et).

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.

Problem with Bears?

Chicago, IL - New Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and star linebacker Brian Urlacher shot down reports of a rift, saying they're simply not true.

"There's nothing between us," Cutler said Thursday, when he reported to training camp. "I just want to put that to rest. There never has been anything between us."

Urlacher added: "I never said what I was quoted as saying and that's it. I have a lot of respect for Jay. I think Jay knows that."
Former Bears receiver Bobby Wade caused a stir when he told Minneapolis radio station KFAN-AM that Urlacher used a profanity while questioning Cutler's manhood during a conversation in Las Vegas last weekend. Wade, who now plays for the Vikings, said Urlacher used a profane version of the word "wimp" during the interview that had to be edited out.

"I wouldn't go face-to-face with Brian, anyway," Cutler said. "No, that's never happened. I've hung out with Brian away from the facility numerous times and we've always gotten along."
Urlacher, noting he was limited by a groin injury, denied the reports in an interview with the Chicago Tribune and did it again when he reported to camp.
"I didn't practice this summer, so I don't know how I would fight the guy if I didn't practice," Urlacher said. "We have no problems. I'm excited about football starting. I'm excited to have him as our quarterback."
Why would Wade say that?
"I don't know," Urlacher said. "Maybe he's jealous because we have a good quarterback now."
Cutler said the first he heard of any friction was when he got a call from Urlacher to clear the air. Urlacher, however, said he had already taken several calls from teammates wondering if the reports were true when Cutler phoned.
"He called me and I said, What's up (expletive), what are you doing?'" a grinning Urlacher said, uttering the same word he allegedly used with Wade. "It's so dumb to me that this even got to this point, but it did and then here we are."

Smith said another quarterback - Michael Vick - deserves one, although he doesn't see it happening with the Bears, who lack an experienced backup. The former Atlanta Falcons star, who served a 23-month sentence for running a dogfighting ring, said Thursday he is getting close to signing with a pro football team.
"A second chance, like everyone in society who has paid their debt to society," Smith said. "He deserves a second chance. As far as we're concerned, we like this team that we have right now."
Particularly the new quarterback.
"Me and Brian have been on a good relationship since I've been here, and I expect it to continue that way," Cutler said.
